Welcome to official campaign website for Gyanprakash S. Mishra(Gyan S. Mishra) for Millburn BOE
Six years ago, my wife and I chose Millburn as the place to raise our two children because of its unique community spirit and the way neighbors truly look after one another. Today, with a daughter in her freshman year and a son in 7th grade, I am more invested than ever in the success of our schools and our town.
My passion for serving this community drives everything I do. I have had the privilege of serving multiple terms on the School PTO boards at both South Mountain Elementary and Millburn Middle School, working firsthand to support our students and teachers. I am also actively involved in our youth sports programs, managed my son’s soccer team at the Millburn Soccer Club for 2 years and coached my daughter’s Rec Basketball team. These experiences have given me a frontline view of what makes our community thrive: parents raising outcomes.
Professionally, I lead a data risk management team in the fintech industry. As a technologist at heart, I plan to bring that same data-driven, results-oriented mindset to the Board of Education. I believe in giving back to the community that has given our family so much, and I am running to ensure we are Raising Outcomes for every single student in Millburn.

High School re-testing policy is helping students get more access to Honors classes and reduce stress. Additional oppurtunity to learn from mistakes and maintain their grades
Middle School needs more enrichment including Science Bowl, Sports team and more engagement to challenge the students. Pathway to Math and Science should be relaxed
Technology policing is become a full time job for parents and kids keep finding workarounds. Chromebook usage must be intentional. Online assesment using Imagine Learing at KG should be replaced with physical assesment
Parents are concerned about recent Niche ranking where Millburn district is now #14 behind the peer districts like Summit, Chatham and Livington
Putting families back at the center of the conversation
Elevating academic standards and expectations
Focusing on measurable success at every student
1. Rebalancing Classroom Technology
Technology belongs in our schools as a tool to help kids learn, but it shouldn't replace real, foundational teaching. We all understood the rush to screens during the pandemic, but the pendulum has swung too far.
If elected, I’ll work with our teachers and parents to dial back unnecessary screen time and audit the sheer number of learning apps our kids use daily. I strongly believe we need a firm boundary of no generative AI for grades K-8. Let’s bring back the tactile fundamentals that work: handwriting, turning pages in physical textbooks, and doing math with a pencil and paper instead of a keyboard and a video screen. Our kids deserve a healthy digital environment that protects their focus and natural cognitive growth.
2. In-School Enrichment & Career Prep
Every student deserves access to robust academic enrichment during the regular school week. We cannot rely solely on after-school child care (ASC) programs to fill the gap for specialized activities.
I want to see premier competitive and creative programs integrated directly into our normal school ecosystem so that every child has a chance to participate. Let’s bring in and fully support programs like the Science Olympiad, Field trips, Science Olympaid, Sports team, Robotics, Speech & Debate, Model UN and DECA/FBLA alongside creative teamwork tracks like Odyssey of the Mind and TREP$. By embedding these into our schools, we actively encourage all students to step up, build real confidence, and discover what they love doing.
3. Streamling District Communication
As a parent, I’ve seen firsthand how easily critical school updates get lost in a crowded inbox. Too often, I see parents in our community WhatsApp groups asking in frustration, "Wait, when was this sent out?" A lot happens in our district, and relying entirely on a flood of emails isn't working anymore.
If elected, I want to work on streamlining how the district shares information and find solutions that go beyond just sending another email. I will focus my time on making sure all important school updates live in one central, easy-to-navigate place so parents don't have to spend time digging through their inboxes. Whether it's clear details on academic pathways, testing schedules, or updates that affect our kids' futures, this information needs to be readily accessible. By making communication transparent and simple, we can take a lot of unnecessary stress off both parents and students.
4. Creating a Real Partnership Between Parents and the Board
Real progress happens when parents actually have a seat at the table. While our current Board of Education is approachable, we can take our community connection to the next level by building even more proactive, structured partnerships.
My goal is to make it incredibly easy for families to share their honest expectations, ideas, and concerns directly with board members. We shouldn't be handed top-down decisions; we should be figuring out solutions together. The best outcomes for our kids happen when parents, teachers, and the board collaborate openly and transparently as true partners.
Real outcomes are achieved when our community comes together. Whether you have five minutes or a few hours to spare, there are many ways you can help.
